Hosted by Rachel Coleman, the co-creator, and featuring her daughter Leah who is Deaf and nephew Alex who is Hearing, Signing Time teaches American Sign Language (ASL) in a fun and interact way. Signing Time combines orginal music, animation, and live-action footage to demonstrate and illustrate everyday signs like "milk", "want", "mom", "dad", "help" and more. Signing Time promotes early communication through signing, fewer tantrums since children can use a sign to express their needs, incourages reading through the words being shown as they are taught, and teaches a second language while be... read full review »

The Signing Time videos have been a part of our home since my oldest daughter (almost 6) was about 8 months old.  This is when I first read a magazine article about Rachel Coleman and the videos that she developed to teach her family and others how to communicate with the deaf, primarily her daughter Leah.
The videos are amazing!  From the very start they captivate children's (and adults) attention.  The songs are so fun.  The vibrant colors and variety of children keep your attention.  Children are soon trying, very eagerly, to make their little hands do what Rachel's and the other children's...

This series has been an incredible blessing to our family.  Our youngest child had a series of health issues that caused her doctors to label her with an IQ of under 80 (profoundly disabled).  They said she'd never communicate - WRONG!  By 11 months she had 18 signs.  By 18 months she had over 300 and knew ALL the letters of the alphabet by sight, sound and sign - upper and lower case.  Now, at 5, she has over 800 signs in her vocabulary, cognitive testing well over expectations for her age level, and is speaking at age level.  Her communication skills are above average and it's all been... read full review »

The Signing Time videos were a huge help for us with our little girl who was struggling with speech apraxia. As she picked up sign language through the videos, we were able to finally communicate with her and her behavior improved (no doubt due to her decreased frustration as she could now express her desires and feelings through signs). We've got all the DVDs and record the TV shows on PBS through our TiVo. Our child began speaking better after learning sign language as well, as it helped associate words with their meaning.

"Signing Time" is a great series.  It introduces kids to sign language in a fun way.  My kids sign to each other whatever words they know, and are always ready to learn more.

I was turned on to Signing Time by a friend when my daughter was an infant.  We weren't planning on having her watch any TV for a year, but after seeing this, we started putting it on (the very first one, when Rachel had long hair!) one a week or so.  We started when she was about 9 months, and after she turned one, we found more DVD's at the library.

I started doing signs and she started a little after her fist birthday.  Signing became a huge part of our communication and a lot of the fun we had together.  She watched a Signing Time DVD at least once a day (we strayed from our no tv rule a...

Educational, Smart, Friendly, Family Fun!

Signing Time and Signing Time Series Two are Awesome!

Signing helps unleash you and your child's brain power.

It's absolutely fascinating to watch your child learn so much in just a thirty-minute show.

I have almost 2 complete sets. I do not have Happy  Birthday from Series Two.

All the others are great, though. The gift sets usually come with a sing-and-sign along CD to listen to throughout the day. This reinfoces what you saw on the DVD. These tunes are catchy and they are sung beautifully. A lot of kid's songs are annoying, but Rachel Coleman can really...

My wife and children watch Signing Time every Sunday at 7:00am.  We are not a hearing impared family, but we enjoy learning the new language.  My wife works at a Middle School and she has been able to use some of the things that she has learned from Signing Time to communicate with parents and students.  This is a fun, interactive program that is not only an educational tool that children will like, but adults will enjoy as well.

The co-founder of Signing Time, Rachel Coleman created the show when she discovered that her daughter, Leah, was deaf.  Rachel also has another daughter, Lucy...

I am so grateful for being introduced to these DVD's. I have a 2 1/2 year old son who is in speech therapy, and gets really frustrated when we dont understand what he wants. He is very behind.
Hi speech therapist recommended that he learns some simple signs just to be able to express himself in easy ways.
In 4 days he has learned about 10 new signs, like, drink, more, milk, dog, cat, water, eat, and fish. He is brand new to signing and it is great! We are having to practice with him, but the dvds are very easy to follow and fun! All of my kids have started watching. I am not sure on the price,...

Last year in my preschool class, our secretary ordered this set for us to watch.  I was a little skeptic teaching 3-5 year olds sign language.  My son was also in this class.  They all loved it.  The video included children showing the sign language motion, plus the items.  It reviewed it so well.  My son who is 5, fell in love with it, and I had to purchase the set for at home too.  We now have conversations by signing, and we only started 5 months ago.  He met his kindergarten teacher and she was so impressed.  Very worth teaching children at an early age.  It could help them so much... read full review »

These are very well done. It eliminates  much of the frustration of not understanding what you little one wants before verbal communication is in. Easier to communicate through signs and the words and voices help with word recognition as well. Our grandchildren are not hearing impaired but it is of great benefit for them and by watching them we are also learning and able to communicate with others who are hearing impaired.

I thought I was too old to learn sign language but with the DVD's it is even easy for a grandparent. My grandchildren ask for them every day. What a worthwhile program for...

My 18 month old watches these and uses the signs throughout the day.  It makes communicating with his so much easier and less frustrating.  The songs are fun which makes repetitive watches not too annoying.  As he grows older, his vocabulary and verbal skills are doing great!  Don't believe it when people say that signing with babies will slow down their speech.  You MUST verbalize the words while at the same time do the signs.  It really is a wonderful thing.

Signing Time is a wonderful series, created by the talented Rachel Coleman. I use these videos in my Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes to reinforce the signs I am teaching the children. (We use ASL on a daily basis in our hearing classroom to build literacy skills.) The children (and I, their teacher) love these dvds! Each one is created to teach 2 to 3 dozen signs related to a specific theme. Watch Signing Time with Alex and Leah today!
