After repeated frustrations in using yet again wrong directions from mapquest we decided it was time to look into getting a gps system. We talked to numerous friends and family members and read all the info we could find in an effort to determine whiich one would best be suited to our needs. Because I have a hearing problem of special interest to me was one with a "voice" that I could easily understand. Don't know how I got along without it.

I have shopped for a GPS for about 2 years and now found one with lots of great features, easy to use, and a very good price.

Very easy to install, just pop on the dash and plug into the cigarette lighter. Follow the prompts for setting up, this will take from 5 to 15 minutes. Set up your blue-tooth and bam your done.

Price shop for this item as it does vary from store to store. Most stores will match prices so you can buy it at your favorite store.

i really like this thing! this is my first gps unit, and i spent a lot of time comparing different brands and models before selecting the 550. comes with everything you need to use it right away. easy to use, easy to figure out. the manual is pretty good except in a few areas. i'd like to know more about the battery, like, do i have to worry about how much i charge it? otherwise, very minor things that you can eventually figure out by playing with it. offers a selection of voices, languages, map views, and more. easily detours, and re-routes. volume is great also. i would definitely... read full review »

This is a great product

I have a Garmin GPS c550 and I love it. It gets me where I need to go. The only thing I don't like about it is that you have to buy upgrades for it which is the same price as buying a brand new off brand one that doesn't need to be updated. I like the Garmin because it is so easy to use and I love the touch screen but I am not wanting to spend the money on and update when the time comes. This is a great product except sometimes, it takes you the long way to get to some places which I don't understand but as long as it gets me to where I need to be, I am happy!

If you are wondering if you really need this item. Don't hesitate! This is probably the smartest purchase I have ever made. The C550 is very simple and user friendly. There is no learning curve! Very solid and sturdy. The bluetooth phone feature is wonderful. I was not sure that I needed that feature, but I am very glad that I purchased a GPS with this feature.

100 times better than mapquest.

my husband & I purchased this item from best buy. before, we were constantly wasting paper printing out directions from mapquest. now, we can just hop in the car and go. being a military family, it helps us get around unfamiliar areas when we restation. Definitely worth the money.

it's a good naviagator. The error everytime I use it is always on my part rather than the Garmin's. The voice gets a little sassy when you don't do what it asks, but maybe that's just me putting human traits on a machine.

I recently travelled to Florida (Orlando area) with my children. Before our drive, I printed out mapquest dirctions to our hotel. The evening before our departure, my husband purchased a GPS system (advertised in our local sales circular) as a back up. I had made the drive numerous times and was familiar with the route. The trip went as expected and we arrived safe and sound to our destination. The Garmin c-550 has reduce a lot of stress in my life. As a person who is leery of getting lost on many occasions I decided to give this GPS a try. The setup is simple, the mount is simple, the whole product is. What better then turning something on and seeing two buttons too choose from? That's all there are to start!

I have always been a wrong way Sullivan, so when I received a job promotion to become a field representative for a large health care company I panicked. How would I survive going into new cities and finding my way around and locate the numerous destinations I was required to visit.

The purchase of the GARMIN GPS unit solved all of my problems. Flying into Salt Lake City for the very first time at night I was able to plug in the GARMIN into the rental car outlet, input the address of the hotel and receive directions in a matter of minutes!

My husband and I purchased the Garmin StreetPilot c550 as a present to each other for Christmas last year. We could not be more pleased. It has been accurate on each trip and even helped us find a quicker route to a destination we had been traveling to for years. It is so helpful to mention the name of streets unlike some GPS systems that only give you directions to turn 400 ft, 800 ft, etc. I would highly recommend this product. Updates are quick and easy to obtain. We plan to purchase another Garmin in the near future for our other car.

We were in an unfamiliar city and a friend brought her Garmin GPS. It took us everywhere we needed to go without a hitch. I could not believe it and immediately begin looking for one to buy. This model had all the features I wanted and at a price I felt was reasonable. Very user friendly, I started using it without even reading the manual. Voice easily understood and turn directions are given in plenty of time to make lane adjustments (no running into that plate glass window for me!). It has helped me get around several traffic problems.

Garmin StreetPilot c550 is a great little gadget. I have always been a great navigator but I find this unit can get me there with a lot less hassle. I'm sure there are more advanced units on the market, but the price is right on this one. Check Amazon or E-bay for the best prices.

We have 3 units in the family. It's great for my daughter's business where she is on the road a lot of the time. Both she and I feel secure knowing she isn't likely to get lost (particularly at night and alone!)
