Dell Inspiron E1705 PC Notebook Review Summary

There was time when Dell was widely derided for the poor quality of their notebook computers; those days are long gone. Today Dell is recognized as one of the top notebook manufactures in the world and stellar offerings like the Inspiron E1705 are the reason why. Our community of portable computer users has mostly good things to say about their Dell Inspiron E1705’s; one reviewer praised it saying: "The E1705 is a beautiful, fast machine which can handle all the entertainment you’ll want…I don’t think you’ll do better than this Dell E1705." While still another reviewer stated: "This laptop has completely replaced my PC. The computer is a great value. It is durable, and dependable." This rather large laptop is equipped with a 17" TFT active matrix WUXGA display, powerful Intel Core Duo processor at up to 2.0GHz, up to 4GB DDR2 RAM, wireless LAN, and (6) USB 2.0 ports. While one reviewer experienced problems with the computer’s wireless NIC and hard drive, overall our community of reviewers highly recommends this notebook. Read what our reviews have to say about the Dell Inspiron E1705 as well as the Hewlett Packard HP Pavilion DV6000 and Gateway MT6840 notebook computers.

Overall I like the laptop and support from dell. I find it does have loads of memory but the cd-rom is slow and it is slow to connect to wireless internet. Don't get me wrong I love the laptop there are just would change a few things before I baught it again. Maybe a faster cd-rom drive and stuff. Also... read full review »

I own this laptop for a year  and is great, i used for video processing and for gaming, runs smoothly. The Nvidia 7900 GS card that my laptop has runs almost everything, and the big screen is very nice for those matters.

It does have a couple of cons: Its very heavy, maybe to heavy for a "portable" device, the chipset only support up to 2 MB of RAM. last but not least the inspiron comes with integrated audio wich is not the best for audio/video processing.

This machine is a workhorse, and you can get it in desktop-replacement-friendly sizes (mine has a 17-inch screen!).

The downside is, of course, that the bigger it is, the MORE it WEIGHS.  I'm not gonna lie: by the time you pack the computer AND the chunky battery pack, you are going to be lugging that thing around, wondering why it's considered a "portable" computer!

It also runs hot, of course -- the power box is hot, and sometimes the bottom of the computer is super-hot, too.

That said, I've never met a laptop that didn't have these flaws.  And this model has a lot going for it, too.

I love the...

We purchased our Dell Laptop about 6 months ago.  For the most part we have been satisfied with our purchase.  This laptop is ideal for home use.  The kitchen desk we have for a computer is quite small, so the notebook was a great way for us to maximize the space.  The amount of memory that comes standard with this computer is plenty for home use or minimal business use.  However, I have not been impressed with Windows Vista, the software program that came installed with the computer.  I have found that it's not compatible with my Kodak Easy Share camera or the remote access application... read full review »

I bought this as our family's first laptop two years ago.  My husband, daughter and I each have our own Dell desktop, so we wanted a portable "toy".  I got it with all the bells and whistles, so it's really quick, sharp and ready for any and all tasks.  I must state, however, that ours came with Windows XP Home Edition back then.  I agree with the others who say it is heavy, but as previously stated, it IS a 17" screen.  And the bottom does get very hot.  We have not had any problems whatsoever with this laptop and are very happy with our purchase!

This laptop has completely replaced my PC. The computer is a great value. It is durrable, and dependable. I have had this computer for 2 years. I highly recomend the core2 duo processor and upgrading to the one with 4mb bus. I also had dell install the 256mb video card. With these affordable specks this laptop runs programs better than any computer I've seen. Performance is better though when it is running on A/C rather that the battery. The core 2 shuts down one of the cores when it is running on batery. The thing is heavy and bulky but worth it if you want the same performance of a desktop.

I really love my new laptop. It is the best one I could have found for the price I paid for it. I use  it for college and just to surf the net. One of the best purchases I could have possibly made. I love how fast it is, and how easy it is to use, it is fast, reliable and you can do almost anything with it. It has a very good memory, lots of mega bytes and really flies on the net. I use it all the time, it is perfect for me to use for school. My daughter even loves to play games on it she uses it all the time.

Needed a versatile computer for personal and professional use and this fit the bill perfectly.  Powerful, with lots of memory and speed.  I wanted a large screen laptop that was portable and this one is.  While I did upgrade from the basic version, I could not be happier with my machine.  It may be a little heavy but it is well worth it.  I found a fantasitc targus case for it and now it goes everywhere i do. Highly recommended.

I love this notebook. I have had no problems with it so far. I have not had to use the service yet ,but that is a good thing. I was told this product has excellent service.I bought this notebook mainly because of the good name dell has. I was not use to vista but it is very simular to xp. It is fast enough for me. I don't play games on it so i really don't have input on that. I do recommend this item.

I have had a continues problem since receiving it summer 2007 with my wireless mobile card.  I have replaced it and had my hard drive replace because of other problems.  I have mixed opinion about their tech support.  I could never get somebody to out to check my computer out to find what was the cause of my problems.  Dell tech support is lacking.

I've had my e1705 for about a year and a half now and i really don't have any complaints. I mainly just use it for email, web searching etc... I have had to restore it a few times. I like to do a factory restore...its goes back to like the very first time you turn it on. Alls you have to do is turn it on and when the blue dell logo pops up hit control and f11.

I love this product.  It was really easy to set up out of the box.  I've owned Dells before and have always received great customer service.  This computer is also extremely durable, anytime I travel it comes along with me.  Overall, I feel this computer is a good value and fits all basic computing requirements.

I am a huge fan of Dell and knew that I wanted this computer because of its wonderful features. I love the large screen size which cuts down on eye strain. It is also very fast and has lots of memory for me to have everything on my computer that I need.
